Built Exclusively on Vertiv™
The physical layer, from Vertiv™.
Racks, enclosures, modular builds, and the software that watches them — Uptime specifies Data Center Infrastructure on Vertiv™ equipment end to end, the same platform pairing with the UPS and cooling in Critical Power & Cooling so your whole environment shares one vendor and one monitoring layer.

The physical layer
Everything that houses, protects, and reports on the equipment itself.
Where Critical Power & Cooling covers the power path and thermal management, Data Center Infrastructure covers what the equipment actually sits in — the rack, the enclosure, the room or module around it — and the software layer that tells you what’s happening inside. Built on the same Vertiv™ platform, so a rack, its PDU, and the software watching it all report through one system.
- Vertiv™ VR Rack™ enclosures, built for the density your cooling plan supports
- Factory-built SmartMod™ modular data centers, for sites with no room to build one
- Environet™ Alert monitoring, watching power, temperature, and humidity around the clock

Vertiv™ VR Rack™
The enclosure your cooling and power plan were sized around.
A rack is the one piece of Data Center Infrastructure every server, switch, and UPS in the building sits inside, so it has to match the airflow and load-bearing plan the rest of the room was designed for — not the other way around. The Vertiv™ VR Rack™ line covers standard 42U server enclosures through wide, deep, and seismic-rated configurations, with front and rear doors that support the airflow a row-cooling plan depends on.
Sizes
24–48U, multiple widths and depths
Best fit
New builds and rack refreshes standardizing on one enclosure

A rack accessory worth speccing up front
Vertiv™ PowerIT™ Monitored Rack PDU
Every VR Rack™ we quote gets a rack PDU recommendation alongside it — a monitored, mountable power strip that reports load per outlet back to your monitoring platform, so you see a circuit trending toward capacity before it trips. It’s the connective piece between the facility power in Critical Power & Cooling and the equipment sitting in the rack.

Outdoor Enclosures
For the equipment that has to live outside the building.
Not every site has room inside for the gear it needs to run — a remote facility, a campus edge node, or a site expanding faster than its server room. Vertiv™’s outdoor enclosures are weatherproof, wall- or pad-mounted cabinets built to house active network and power equipment in an unconditioned outdoor environment, with the same monitoring hooks as an indoor rack.
Mounting
Wall, pad, or pole-mounted configurations
Best fit
Remote sites, campus edge nodes, outdoor expansion
When there’s no room to build one
Factory-built modular data centers.
Vertiv™ SmartMod™ systems ship as complete, factory-integrated modules — power, cooling, racks, and fire suppression built and tested before they ever leave the factory floor — and land on a pad in weeks instead of the months a ground-up room build takes.
Vertiv™ SmartMod™
A complete computer room, delivered on a truck.
SmartMod™ is a prefabricated, factory-integrated data center module — racks, power distribution, and precision cooling assembled and tested at the Vertiv™ factory, then shipped as a complete building. For a site that’s outgrown its server room but doesn’t have the time or space for a ground-up build, it’s a way to add computer-room capacity on an outdoor pad in a fraction of the time.
Delivery
Factory-integrated, tested before shipment
Best fit
Capacity expansion with no room for a build-out

Vertiv™ SmartMod™ Max
The larger-scale version, for a full row of racks under one roof.
SmartMod™ Max scales the same factory-built approach to a larger footprint — a full row of IT racks, dual power paths, and in-row cooling integrated into one prefabricated module. It’s the module to reach for when the capacity need is a small data center’s worth of load, not a handful of racks, but a traditional build is still off the table on time or space.
Configuration
Full IT rack row with dual power paths
Best fit
Larger capacity adds, still on a compressed timeline
Vertiv™ Environet™ Alert
Know what’s happening inside before it becomes a ticket.
Environet™ Alert watches power, temperature, and humidity across your racks and rooms and puts it on one dashboard — the same platform whether it’s reading a single VR Rack™ or a full SmartMod™ deployment. Thresholds trigger alerts before a condition becomes an outage, and the record gives you the trend line when it’s time to plan the next capacity add.
Monitors
Power, temperature, humidity, and rack-level events
Best fit
Any facility that wants to see a problem before it happens

Side by side
Finding room, three ways.
| Spec | VR Rack™ | SmartMod™ | SmartMod™ Max |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Standard server enclosure | Prefabricated single-module data center | Prefabricated multi-rack-row data center |
| Typical timeline | In stock to a few weeks | Weeks from order to pad-ready | Weeks to a few months, larger scope |
| Fits inside | An existing room or floor | An outdoor pad, no room needed | A larger outdoor pad, no room needed |
| Best fit | New builds, rack refreshes | A room’s worth of capacity, fast | A small data center’s worth of capacity, fast |

One platform, top to bottom
The same Vertiv™ platform behind Critical Power & Cooling.
Vertiv™ is our only partner across both of these categories, on purpose — a VR Rack™ enclosure, the PDU inside it, the CoolPhase™ unit cooling it, and the Environet™ Alert dashboard watching all of it are built to work together and report through one system. Uptime coordinates the single order, the single warranty, and the single service call across the whole environment.

Common questions
Data Center Infrastructure FAQs.
Do I need a modular data center, or just more racks?
If you have floor space in a conditioned room, VR Rack™ enclosures with the right power and cooling plan are usually faster and less expensive. SmartMod™ and SmartMod™ Max make sense when you’re out of room, out of time for a build-out, or both.
What’s the difference between SmartMod™ and SmartMod™ Max?
SmartMod™ is sized for a single module’s worth of racks. SmartMod™ Max scales the same factory-built approach to a full row of IT racks with dual power paths — the choice comes down to how much capacity you need and on what timeline.
Does the rack PDU tie into Critical Power & Cooling?
Yes — the monitored rack PDU is the connective piece between the UPS and distribution equipment in Critical Power & Cooling and the rack itself. We recommend one alongside every VR Rack™ quote.
Can Environet™ Alert monitor equipment we already own?
In most cases, yes, if it exposes standard environmental or power telemetry. We’ll confirm compatibility against your existing fleet at quote.
Do outdoor enclosures need a concrete pad?
Most configurations do, sized to the unit and local frost line. We confirm foundation requirements as part of the site survey.
Why is Vertiv™ named on this page when it isn’t elsewhere on the site?
Vertiv™ is our only manufacturer partner in Data Center Infrastructure and Critical Power & Cooling, so we name them directly here. Our furniture and workspace categories carry multiple manufacturers, which is why those pages describe the product rather than the brand.
Tell us what you’re out of — room, time, or both.
A rack count, a timeline, and a sense of the site is enough to start — we’ll come back with a Vertiv™ configuration sized to your facility, not a catalog default.
